Calories are usually used to measure the energy content of foods and beverages. We need calories each day. Different individuals need different amounts of calories per day depending on their age, profession and gender but sometimes we take more calories than what is necessary by our bodies. Liquid calories slip by unnoticed and are usually not taken seriously.

Mulled wine is red wine with spices. Mulled wine has around 840 calories per glass. This is due to the sugar, the calories from the herbs, the wine itself and spices that are used to make the wine. Alcoholic drinks are usually high in calories thus the red wine itself has many calories. The wine retains its calories because it is not heated, but it is simmered. Red wine contains 160 calories per glass. Regularly drinking mulled wine increases the drinker’s weight slowly. This is usually unnoticeable during the initial stages of weight gaining because many people think that wine has no calories not realizing that it has more calories than a proper meal. Wine has high calories because it is made from natural starch and sugar.

Mulled wine is beneficial to one’s health. Red wine reduces the risks of cardiovascular disease and heart attacks. It also slims the risk of osteoporosis by increasing bone mineral density in mulled wine drinkers. Mulled wine is an anti-Inflammatory because of cinnamon, which is one of the main ingredients of mulled wine. Cinnamon contains antioxidants which have potent anti-inflammatory properties.


The hot chocolate is another hot drink that is high in calories. White hot chocolate crème has 510 calories per every large cup. White chocolate mocha has 620 calories; white hot chocolate has 640 calories while peppermint hot chocolate has 590 calories. These hot chocolates are high in calories due to the ingredients used to make them. Milk, sugar, and sweeteners all have calories in them. Hot chocolate is not a balanced nutrient it just filled with sugar and calories

The flavonoids found in hot coffee are good for arterial health by reducing the risk of heart disease. The coffee reduces blood pressure and improving blood vessels when drunk in moderation.

The antioxidants in the hot chocolate help fight cancer, heart disease, age-related macular degeneration, and aging because they can fight free radicals in the body. Hot chocolate can help boost one’s brain power and improve their overall brain health together with improving one’s mood and memory. The flavonoids in hot chocolate increase the blood flow and thus increasing oxygen supply to the brain, helping one to think better if sweeteners are reduced.


All these hot drinks have a beneficial side. They just have to be consumed in moderation and to reduce a number of sweeteners when preparing them.
